Stop and Smell the Roses

Life can get hectic sometimes, especially as a writer. We schedule writing time, have deadlines, and many expectations set upon us whether by ourselves, our audiences, or maybe even business deals and contracts. That’s not even including the unexpected, and maybe even expected, chaos that life throws at us. It’s extremely important that we remember to take care of ourselves during these events. That is why, in this post, we would like to focus on the importance of creating and using a self care routine as writers.
Creating new characters and worlds, even being a content creator, does not showcase your talent all that well when you are burning the candlestick at both ends. I don’t know about you, but we have a hard time churning out amazing pieces of work, much less something legible, when we’re running on fumes. Burning yourself out only brings on negative feelings and tension in our lives. And mediocre work, which we definitely do not want ruining our reputation and hard work. Despite our busy schedules, it is vital to one’s mental health to take the time to practice self care, no matter how small the act may be. This simply allows you to find a healthy balance in your life.
Let’s talk about the many ways you can treat yourself to a little R & R. The most obvious ideas that many people think of when considering self care are things like taking a relaxing bath, going for a walk, maybe pampering yourself with a mani-pedi and massage. However, we forget that there are even simpler ways to bring oneself happiness, peace, and relaxation. If you’re one to get your hair and nails done, and it gives you the good ‘feels’, that’s a mode of self care for you. Something as small as putting on your favorite comfy clothes can be a good start to finding your happy vibes. Drink your favorite drink, listen to your favorite podcast. The Mad Badger likes to listen to music, play video games, and read. Music and reading are what helps her the most to relax and find inspiration to write. Red Panda likes to read, relax in her pajamas on the couch, and drink a good calming cup of tea.
When our thoughts and moods are in sync and healthy, it allows the rest of our lives to run a lot more smoothly. There will always be bumps in the road, but let it ease your worries that you have the tools to cope with and give yourself the care you need to deal with them. Find the little acts in your life that allow you to soak in peace and happiness. Returning to your favorite self care techniques is a great way to reset your mind and start your day, or even just the next moment in your day, on a positive note. Give your big beautiful brain a little love so you can continue producing the greatest works of your existence. And don’t take life too seriously. After all, it's a mad world out there!
